Testing if ALTERA Board is Working

TEST FLEX 10k20
1) Set switch on ALTERA Board to "up"
2) Connect power cable to power supply
3) Connect parallel cable from PC to Byte Blaster cable on ALTERA Board
1)double click Maxplus2 10.1

2)A DOS window will appear
Then the Maxplus window will open up

3) SELECT MAX+plus|| > Programmer

4) SELECT JTag > Multi-Device JTag Chain Setup...

1) SELECT file in Program File window

This is only necessary if there is a programming file in there. If there is no file in that window go to next step. If a file is in this window and it is not selected then that file will always be downloaded to the Altera Board . In order to change to a new program file the present file must be selected.

2) SELECT Select Programming File ...

3) SELECT x: under drives

4) SELECT demos/vhdl (this is under the root directory of "X")

5) SELECT max10k20.sof
see note at bottom of page to test connector A and C on ALTERA Board

6) SELECT change

7) SELECT Detect JTag Chain info...

A window should appear stating

JTag information confirmed by Hardware Check

If the hardware check fails make sure that switch on the ALTERA Boardis set right.
Try the JTag test again.
If it still fails bring the Altera board to the B3110 for Replacement.

8) SELECT OK.

9) SELECT PROGRAM

Connect the 60 pin ribbon cable from the 60 pin header opposite the FLEX 10k20 to the Altera Test Board.
(The Altera Test Board should be in the cabinet with all the Altera Boards)

The LEDs on the TESTJIG will go through a test routine.

Check to see if any of the LEDs are always ON or OFF

The test program checks:
1) each individual I/O pin
2)Both odd and even I/O pins at the same time
3)The even I/O pins are all ON.
4)The odd I/O pins are allON.
5)All the I/O pins are ON.

The pattern repeats the sequence again.

If the test fails check the 60 pin ribbon cable.
Try the test again
If the cable or Altera Board are bad get another from Norm Baccari in the B3110

** NOTE **

Some of the ALTERA Boards have 3 headers for the FLEX 10k20

To test connector A replace:

maxcon1.sof instead of max10k20 in step 5)

To test connector C replace:

maxcon3.sof instead of max10k20 in step 5)
