• event size: publication record(s) (e.g., {Author, title, …}) or entire documents

• simple subscription languages suffice (conjuncts only)

• subscriptions change infrequently (e.g., 5 / user / month)

• low notification rate (e.g., 5 / user / week)

• unreliable notification semantic sufficient

• notification propagated mostly via e-mail
