The circuit uses about 86% of the available LEs on the FPGA and runs at 25 MHz (or million keys per second). With the addition of another pipeline register in the S-box, the speed would be almost 40MHz, but it does not fit.
    As far as we know, this is the fastest programmable DES cracking processor. It achieves a throughput of 800M keys per second. To go through the whole space it takes around 3 years. To find a key, on average, it would take a year and a half.
    The DES cracker circuit supports usage sharing so that the search engine takes over automatically whenever the TM-2a hardware is not being used for other projects.
