Jianwen Zhu received B.E degree in Electrical Engineering from
Tsinghua University
in 1993, and the M.S and PhD. degree in Computer Science from
University of California at
Irvine
in 1996 and 1999, where he co-invented
the SpecC
language. He was appointed as
assistant professor in January 2000, and associate professor in July
2005, at the Electrical and Computer Engineering
Department, University
of Toronto, where he is affliated with both
the Computer
Engineering
group and the
Eletronics
groups.
He came across the field of computer-aided design (CAD) of
integrated circuits in 1993, when he was first facinated by the vision
of silicon
compilation. He is still inspired by this
first encounter and is currently pursuing its new
incarnation
in the context of
system-on-chip designs. He leads the Synthesis
Research Group
to produce theories,
languages, algorithms, and software prototypes for that matter.
